Mobile operators prepare to enter fixed broadband market

16 Apr 2007

Irish newspaper The Sunday Business Post says that Vodafone Ireland and O2 Ireland have given the ‘clearest signal yet’ that they plan to enter the country’s fixed line broadband market sometime later this year. Senior officials of both firms confirm that the plan is very much ‘on the agenda’ with a 2007 launch prioritised in their current business strategies. The arrival of competition from two well established cellcos will provide a challenge to incumbent PTO eircom which controls roughly four-fifths of the residential fixed broadband market.
