Vodafone targets 250,000 net new additions in 2007

13 Apr 2007

The Czech Republic’s smallest mobile operator by subscribers, Vodafone CR, plans to sign up more than 250,000 new users in 2007 to boost its total to 2.7 million by the end of the year. To achieve this, the operator plans to expand its portfolio with the introduction of new services such as internet access and free SMS messaging, said its chief executive Grahame Maher. The CEO says the operator also plans to enter into a network sharing deal with rival T-Mobile in the second half of this year. Discussions on the plan are ongoing.

At the end of 2006 there were more than 12.3 million mobile phones registered in the Czech Republic, a cellular penetration rate of 120.9%, says TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database. T-Mobile led the way with 5.05 million subscribers, a market share of 40.96%, ahead of Telefónica O2 CR (formerly Cesky Telecom, Eurotel Prague) with 4.86 million (39.46%) and Vodafone with 2.41 million (19.58%).
