Astelit carries out 3.5G trials in Kiev

4 Apr 2007

Ukraine’s third largest cellco Astelit, which operates under the life:) brand, has announced that it has performed successful trials of a W-CDMA/HSDPA network spanning five base stations in Kiev. The trial 3G/3.5G equipment was supplied by Nokia-Siemens Networks. Astelit has not yet announced plans for a commercial 3G launch, and does not hold a 3G operating licence; the country’s sole UMTS licensee is state-run incumbent telco Ukrtelecom, which is expected to launch mobile services this quarter.
