Mobile number portability arrives in Pakistan

2 Apr 2007

The CEO of Pakistan MNP Database (PMD), Dr. Arshad Siddiqi, has confirmed that mobile number portability (MNP) has been implemented. PMD is an independent body set up by the local telecoms regulator, Pakistan Telecommunications Authority (PTA), with the specific purpose of managing the implementation of MNP. Telenor Pakistan claimed to be the first to benefit from the change with new customer Syed Mehar Masood-ul-Haq switching from Mobilink to Telenor Pakistan. It takes approximately four working days to port a number, provided there are no obligations/liabilities on the existing cellular network.
