UMC’s profits up 15.8%

Ukraine’s second largest mobile operator Ukrainian Mobile Communications (UMC), has reported a 15.8% year-on-year increase in 2006 net profit to USD375 million, as calculated under US GAAP, with revenues climbing 24% to USD1.49 billion. Operating income before depreciation and amortization (OIBDA) rose 30.6% to USD764 million. Monthly ARPU dropped to USD7.3 in 2006 from USD9.5 in 2005. In the fourth quarter the cellco’s net income rose 21.7% year-on-year to USD100 million on revenues that were up 18.6% to USD400.4 million. 4Q OIBDA reached USD202 million, up 28.7% on the same period of 2005. UMC, wholly owned by Russian cellular operator MTS, had just over 20 million GSM subscribers at the end of December.
