ShinSat to carry out 3.5GHz WiMAX tests

16 Mar 2007

Thai telecoms regulator the NTC has approved a trial of WiMAX wireless broadband technology by Shin Satellite (ShinSat), to determine whether WiMAX transmissions in the 3.5GHz frequency band interfere with its satellite signals, reports local daily The Nation. ShinSat currently uses the spectrum to offer satellite services but has plans to use it for WiMAX as well. The NTC is currently drafting WiMAX licensing regulations. Telcos TOT and True are also planning to offer WiMAX services in the 2.4GHz and 2.5GHz bands, respectively.
