Minister repeats government’s commitment to BTC privatisation

12 Mar 2007

The Bahamas Minister of State for Finance James Smith has repeated the government’s commitment to the privatisation of the Bahamas Telecommunications Company (BTC). Smith told The Bahama Journal that the government is working at continuing to drive the process forward with the ultimate goal of placing the company in foreign hands. The government has said repeatedly over the past five years that it intends to sell 49% of the fixed line incumbent. Minister Smith said a consortium known as Blue Water is still in talks with the government.
