12 Mar 2007

Cameroon’s Minister of Post and Telecommunications, Maigari Bello Bouba, said at a press conderence that all numbers would gain a digit as from 1 June 2007. Subscribers of CamTel, the fixed line incumbent, will see a 2 or a 3 added to the start of their numbers, while mobile customers will get an extra 7 if they are with MTN, or a 9 if with Orange. The change will increase the capacity of the numbering system from eight million to 80 million.
