Swisscom fined CHF333 million by competition authority

16 Feb 2007

Switzerland’s competition authority has announced it has fined Swisscom CHF333 million (USD269 million) for excessive pricing on mobile termination rates. According to the watchdog, Swisscom Mobile abused its dominant market position by forcing customers to pay an inappropriately high rate of CHF0.335 per minute. In response, Swisscom has said it will appeal against the decision. ‘Swisscom rejects the charge that it misused its dominant market position and the sanction. The company will dispute the ruling before the Federal Administrative Court and, if necessary and as a last resort, before the Federal Court,’ said a company statement.
