Telenor, Hi3G award Nokia new 3G contracts

14 Feb 2007

Swedish W-CDMA network operator 3G Infrastructure Services (3GIS), a joint venture between Telenor Sweden and Hi3G Access Sweden, has extended its managed services contract with Nokia, and has also awarded the Finnish technology giant a new contract to upgrade its network capacity. The order includes the deployment of the Nokia Transport system which uses Siemens SDH microwave radio technology and is designed to handle future mobile broadband services. Nokia has been working with 3GIS since 2001, supplying W-CDMA radio and core network equipment.

Hutchison Whampoa-backed Hi3G and Telenor’s 3GIS vehicle is one of two 3G infrastructure joint ventures in Sweden, the other being TeliaSonera and Tele2’s Svenska UMTS-nät company.
