FINTEL to launch wireless internet service by month-end

14 Feb 2007

Fiji International Telecommunications Limited (FINTEL) says it will launch a new wireless internet service to people in the Suva-Nausori corridor and Lami by the end of the month. The company’s commercial and business development manager, Jone Wesele, said FINTEL had hoped to launch in January, but the rollout was delayed in the wake of the coup in December 2006. FINTEL is investing almost USD10 million to set up the service in the area, where it will compete with three rival ISPs – Connect, Unwired Fiji and Oxygen.

In December 2006 FINTEL announced it had contracted Israeli firm Alvarion to supply it with its BreezeMAX product to provide WiMAX data services to local businesses and residents.
