US vendor Motorola has announced it has won a USD50 million GSM network expansion deal with Celtel Nigeria. Under the agreement, Motorola will provide hardware and software enhancements to enable Celtel to increase its subscriber capacity, extend its coverage in the south and south-eastern regions of the country, and to improve its quality of service. Celtel Nigeria, which ended 3Q 2006 with just under six million subscribers, is part of the Kuwaiti MTC Group, which has operations in 20 countries, including 15 in Africa.
