Telecom Fiji backs deregulation call

13 Feb 2007

Local calls operator Telecom Fiji has backed a move by the country’s interim government to deregulate the telecoms industry. The company’s group managing director, Joe Mar, told the press that Telecom Fiji was happy to work with any administration to continue the process of deregulation. ‘We are quietly confident that the changes we have been undertaking internally will be helpful in meeting competition head on,’ he said, although he warned that his firm would probably be seeking compensation for the loss of its exclusivity rights in the market.
