Telstra to close CDMA network by Jan 2008

6 Feb 2007

Telstra chief executive Sol Trujillo has confirmed that his company is planning to close its CDMA network by January 2008. Mr Trujillo suggested the promising take-up of the company’s new third generation ‘NextG’ network had firmed up the cut-off date. The AUD1 billion NextG network was launched last October but was plagued by handset shortages in its first months of operation. The network remains incomplete, with work still under way on extending the range of its base stations from 80km to about 200km. A Telstra spokesman said this was expected to occur this year.
