Telecoms investment up 15.7%

Investments in Ukraine’s telecoms sector rose by 15.7% year-on-year to UAH9 billion (USD1.86 billion) in 2006, following a 34.5% rise in 2005, according to figures released yesterday by the Ministry of Transport and Telecommunications. Around two-thirds of last year’s total was attributed to domestic companies. Net new fixed lines reached 617,000 in the year, boosting teledensity by one percentage point to over 26%, according to the government’s statistics.
