Nexcom launches WiMAX network

26 Jan 2007

Nexcom Bulgaria has announced the launch of the country’s first commercial WiMAX network. The network spans ten cities and is based on the fixed 802.16 standard using the BreezeMA suite from Alvarion. The company plans to quickly expand into more than 30 cities during the course of 2007, to give it coverage of 85% of the Bulgarian population. Nexcom claims its WiMAX network supports a myriad of applications and services, ranging from voice and high-speed data – both for residential and business customers, to leased line replacement and VPN for corporate users. Initially the company will provide fixed wireless solutions, progressively upgrading in 2007-2008 to nomadic and mobile services.
