Ministry says TOT cannot block mobile numbers

19 Jan 2007

The Thai ICT Ministry yesterday ordered state-run telco TOT to allow access to its fixed line network by three million new mobile telephone numbers allocated to True Move and DTAC, reports the Bangkok Post. TOT had threatened to block the numbers unless the two cellcos paid it backdated network access charges. On Wednesday, DTAC paid TOT THB315 million (USD8.9 million) in access charges owed for November, and said it would pay a further THB196 million by 27 January. DTAC has already paid THB1.95 billion in charges incurred in December and January. Meanwhile, True Move has not paid any charges since mid-November, and remains adamant that it will pay only interconnection fees and not access charges, under a new framework set to be introduced by the National Telecommunications Commission this year.
