Canar Telecom launches 3G network

8 Jan 2007

Canar Telecom, known locally as Canartel, has become the first company in Sudan to launch a 3G cellular network, under the brand Canar Go. Technical specifications for the wireless broadband service have not been released, although it is thought to be a hybrid Wi-Fi based system. Canartel has offered fixed mobile wireless-in-the-local-loop (WiLL) services since November 2005, and is 40% owned by Emirati incumbent Etisalat.
