Digitel to invest USD200 million in 2007 for mobile expansion

Digital Telecommunications Philippines (Digitel), a unit of JG Summit Holdings which is controlled by tycoon John Gokongwei, plans to invest USD200 million to fund the expansion of its mobile phone unit Digitel (Sun Cellular) in 2007, its vice chairman James Go told reporters yesterday. The company will fund through a combination of internal sources and external loans, although Go did not provide details. Digitel (Sun Cellular) expects to end 2006 with 2.2 million cellular subscribers, rising to between three and 3.5 million next year as a result of the network expansion project.
