Telecom New Zealand has launched its CDMA2000 1x EV-DO Revision A upgrade, increasing data transfer speeds on its 3G mobile network. The new technology has so far been deployed in Auckland and will be introduced nationwide throughout 2007. The Rev A upgrade gives a 10%-15% increase in download speeds when compared to normal EV-DO systems, with a maximum transfer rate of 3.1Mbps. Simon Moutter, chief operating officer at Telecom’s Business division, commented: ‘ This is an exciting step forward on our investment path to offer world-class mobility opportunities for New Zealand businesses, and prepares us for the exciting applications and services that fixed-mobile convergence will soon be bringing to New Zealanders at work, at home and on the move.’ The firm was the first to bring 3G services to New Zealand with its launch in late 2004.
