Netcom wins award

8 Dec 2006

Nigerian satellite and wireless broadband provider Netcom, which operates under the MyNetcom banner, has won the ‘ISP of the Year’ award at the annual Nigerian Information Technology and Telecom Awards (NITTA) ceremony held in Lagos. Selection for the title was based on public votes and was overseen by a panel of judges. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Nigeria’s broadband market is very small, with only around 20,000 subscribers at the end of September 2006, and it is dominated by the incumbent telco NITEL. Netcom is one of a number of smaller players sharing roughly 20% of the market.
