Interoute launches fixed line services for businesses

8 Dec 2006

Pan-European voice and data network operator Interoute Telecom Partners Network (TPN) has announced the launch of fixed line services in Bulgaria. Interoute gained a presence in Bulgaria earlier this year when it acquired Telecom Partners Network, a corporate telecoms provider offering a range of voice, data, and internet services via its national MPLS network. The Interoute fibre-optic network currently extends to southern Italy and Sicily, Serbia and Romania; the company is in the process of building links into the Balkan region, Greece and Turkey. A fibre-optic backbone linking Sofia, Plovdiv, Varna and Veliko Tarnovo is expected to be in place within two years.

According to local daily paper Dnenvik, Interoute is currently in talks to lease dark fibre from local cable operator CableTel and Bulgartel, the telecom division of gas distributor Bulgargaz, which have deployed fibre-optic infrastructure in Plovdiv and the south east of the country. Over the next two years TPN plans to poach between 5% and 10% of BTC’s corporate fixed line business.
