Alvarion inks Fiji WiMAX deal

4 Dec 2006

Israeli wireless broadband solutions company Alvarion Ltd has signed a WiMAX network build contract with Fiji’s international telecommunications provider, Fiji International Communications Limited (FINTEL), allowing FINTEL to offer wireless internet data services to the businesses and residents on the islands. Using Alvarion’s BreezeMAX solution, FINTEL will work with local systems integrator Paclink to launch services in the capital city of Suva, later expanding to more of the 330 islands in the south Pacific archipelago. BreezeMAX will be used as a complement to the operator’s existing fibre and satellite networks. BreezeMAX is Alvarion’s WiMAX Certified platform based on the IEEE 802.16 standards and using OFDM technology for advanced non-line-of-sight (NLOS) functionality.
