The dispute between former staff of incumbent NITEL and the agency which oversaw its privatisation, the Bureau for Public Enterprises (BPE), is rumbling on, with workers threatening to picket the telco after the BPE went back on its promise to pay the NGN87 billion (USD709.9 million) owed in pensions and salaries. The BPE said that it could only afford NGN54 billion and would be graduating the pensions payments, contrary to the pledge it made earlier in the year to pay all workers their five years’ pension.
