Broadband boom

16 Nov 2006

Portugal’s telecoms regulator Anacom has reported that 88.4% of the country’s 1.59 million internet users are now connecting via broadband packages. ADSL is the preferred technology, with 876,000 users, followed by cable internet services, which have 524,000 customers. 1.14 million of the 1.4 million broadband subscribers are residential users, while 260,000 are businesses. Anacom says the country’s dominant telco, Portugal Telecom, has seen its share of the broadband market slip by seven percentage points over the past twelve months to 71.5% at the end of September.
