Hungarian ISP TVnet selects Optibase IPTV solution

15 Nov 2006

Israel-based Optibase, a leading provider of IPTV solutions for telecom operators, service providers, broadcasters and content creators, has won a contract to supply an IPTV solution to Hungarian ISP TVnet, which is upgrading its internet and telephony services. No financial details were disclosed, but the deal, which was made possible through the eastern European systems integrator Ring Net Telecommunications Ltd, is estimated to be worth USD1 million. Under the deal Optibase will deliver and install its MGW 5100 solution, which encodes live video and transcodes from DVB satellite feeds, to help speed up the roll out of TVnet’s IPTV capability. TVnet plans to add IPTV to its basket of services, starting in the capital Budapest, in December. In a press release, Optibase said the new solution would enable the Hungarian firm ‘to yield higher monthly revenues’ as the system ‘is more cost-effective for both the ISP and the subscriber in that it utilises the service provider’s existing broadband infrastructure.’
