3 moves up to HSDPA in Sweden

14 Nov 2006

3G mobile network operator Hi3G Access Sweden (3) has launched an HSDPA network, under the brand name Turbo-3G using a hardware and software platform provided by Ericsson. According to the operator, the upgrade allows customers to download data at speeds averaging between 1Mbps and 1.5Mbps and peaking at up to 3Mbps, and it plans to increase the maximum speed to 7.2Mbps next year. In April 2006 Ericsson was selected to roll out HSDPA on 3’s network, which covered over 90% of the Swedish population by mid-2006, up from around 85% a year earlier. 3 and Ericsson say they will continue to extend network coverage and upgrade software for faster speeds throughout 2007.
