Manitoba Telecom Services (MTS) has reported a lower 3Q profit, as revenues from data, local and long-distance services all declined. MTS reported a net profit of CAD40.5 million (USD35.8 million) for the three months ended 30 September 2006, compared to CAD45.1 million in the same period of 2005. The Winnipeg-based company said stiff competition in the local and long-distance markets was among the factors that helped drag its top line down during the quarter. Operating revenue fell to CAD477.9 million, from CAD507.7 million a year earlier. MTS claims to be nearing the end of a business review it began in January, which aims to focus the company on core operations.
