PTCL profits fall as competition increases

Pakistan Telecommunication Company Limited (PTCL) has posted a 6.9% decline in third quarter profit year-on-year, down to PKR5.15 billion (USD85 million), due to increased competition, particularly in the international call market. PTCL is slashing tariffs in the face of increasing competition from in the wireline and wireless market. Revenues in the three months ended 30 September 2006 fell to PKR16.86 billion, down from PKR17.72 billion a year earlier, whilst operating profit was down 17.3% at PKR6.79 billion. The company did not report operating data.
