The Irish telecoms regulator, the Commission for Communications Regulation (ComReg), is urging Smart Telecom’s voice-only telephony customers to consider switching their service provider as a matter of priority if they want to maintain a continuous service. Despite a high profile consumer information campaign, ComReg is concerned that more than 13,000 voice-only customers have thus far failed to make alternative arrangements in the light of the company’s financial troubles. Smart’s telephony users are being provided with a temporary service, but this is due to end shortly. The struggling telco’s broadband customers are not affected by the developments, the regulator added.
