Telenor’s Serbian cellco increases spending

23 Oct 2006

The Serbian arm of Telenor – known as Mobi 063 prior to its acquisition by the Norwegian telco on 1 September 2006 – has invested an additional USD19.3 million in network infrastructure to further expand network coverage. The investment includes an equipment contract worth USD17.7 million with Ericsson.

In separate but related news, the telecoms regulator of Kosovo has been given permission to dismantle base stations that have been illegally installed in the province, according to cellular-news. The UNMIK Legal Office sent a letter to the regulator authorising the dismantling of the antennas – with the exception of those operated by Telenor, which has permission to provide services to the Serbian minority in Kosovo.
