O2 to launch Irish mobile TV trials

19 Oct 2006

O2 Ireland has teamed up with communications technology company Arqiva to launch consumer trials of broadcast mobile television. The trial will begin in the Republic in December 2006 and aims to include the live broadcast of all main Irish TV channels as well as Sky and other stations. O2 claims it is the first mobile operator in Ireland to test such services and says that from January 2007 the trial will be expanded to include 400 O2 Ireland customers in the Greater Dublin area. The pilot project will last eight months and will be conducted using Nokia N92 mobile TV handsets.
