18 Oct 2006

Bangladeshi mobile market leader GrameenPhone says it is on course to deploy 500 Community Information Centres in rural areas by the end of 2006, giving many people internet access for the first time. Following a successful pilot conducted with the GSM Association’s Development Fund, GrameenPhone is partnering local entrepreneurs to open offices equipped with PCs connected to its GSM/GPRS/EDGE mobile network. Each location is intended to be within reach of up to 15 villages.
