90-day deadline set for Telefónica concession renegotiation

12 Oct 2006

Peru’s Ministry of Transport and Communications has set a deadline of 90 days for the government to renegotiate its concession contract with fixed line incumbent Telefónica del Perú (TdP), writes BNamericas citing local paper Gestión. Peruvian president Alan García announced last week that the government would seek to renegotiate TdP’s concession contract, rather than sign a bill that would eliminate the basic fixed charge (line rental). As it stands TdP’s concession gives it the right to charge line rental; the renegotiation is expected to include a broad rehash of the licence. According to local press, number portability, calling card expiration dates and per second billing are all open for discussion.
