Maroc Connect and Alcatel sign USD32 million NGN deal

4 Oct 2006

Alcatel has announced that it has won a EUR25 million (USD32 million) contract from Moroccan ISP and fixed line provider Maroc Connect to deploy the first phase of a next-generation network (NGN) in five key regions of the country. Under the terms of the agreement, Alcatel is the systems integrator and primary contractor and will assist Maroc Connect in the development, operation and maintenance of the network. The French vendor’s turnkey solution includes its 7515 media gateway and 5020 softswitch. Commercial services are scheduled to be launched over the network in early 2007. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Maroc Connect was awarded Morocco’s third fixed line network operating licence by regulator the ANRT in September 2005. It selected Chinese vendor ZTE Corp to deploy an IP CDMA2000 solution for its planned nationwide network in July 2006.
