Peru to auction former BellSouth mobile licence

26 Sep 2006

Local publication El Correo reports that regulatory body the MTC has given the go ahead for the auction of the mobile licence formerly held by BellSouth. Peru’s government reclaimed the 800MHz ‘B’ band concession as part of its approval of the merger between Telefónica Móviles’ Peruvian subsidiary and BellSouth Peru in 2005. No date has yet been set for the auction, but it is widely believed that trunking operator Nextel del Perú is a prime candidate to pick up the licence.
