19 Sep 2006

Morocco’s ADSL subscriber base reached 331,000 at the end of June 2006, according to a report by the Arab Advisors Group. The ADSL market grew by 97% year-on-year in the second quarter of 2006, compared to 8% growth in the total internet market, signifying a rapid customer migration from narrowband to broadband services. There are currently four broadband ISPs in the country: Maroc Télécom, Maroc Connect, Morocco Trade and Development Services (MTDS) and Maghreb Net. According to TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database, Maroc Télécom has the vast majority of DSL customers, with 325,000 at end-June, whilst its dial-up subscriber base had dwindled to 7,000 by the same date. The Arab Advisors Group projects that the country’s internet market will grow at a CAGR of 29.8% in 2006-2010.
