Ukrtelecom 3G launch slated for 2Q 2007

15 Sep 2006

Ukrainian fixed line operator Ukrtelecom plans to launch commercial 3G mobile services in the second quarter of 2007, the company’s deputy chairman Igor Sirotenko announced on Wednesday. The state-run telco’s original launch date was December 2006, but in July Sirotenko said its UMTS rollout had been delayed by legal red tape preventing it from holding equipment tenders. Ukrtelecom remains the country’s only holder of a W-CDMA licence, which it received in December 2005.
