MTN launches fibre-optic network

Nigerian cellco MTN, market leader by subscriber numbers, has completed the first phase of its fibre-optic transmission network. A complete 2,500km ring linking Lagos, Benin, Asaba, Port Harcourt, Enugu, Abuja and Ibadan is now carrying live traffic using a Dense Wavelength Division Multiplexing (DWDM) system. The next phase planned in the project will link Abuja, Kaduna and Kano with the south and east of the country.
