Elisa to implement 3G expansion

12 Sep 2006

Finnish wireless operator Elisa Mobile says it will expand its 3G network to seven new municipalities and add new base stations to currently covered locations countrywide over the next two months. The expansion will see coverage extended to the centres of Porvoo, Heinola, Kouvola, Savonlinna, Iisalmi, Kajaani and Rovaniemi, making Elisa’s 3G service available to 40% of the population and close to 50 towns and cities, as well as the ten largest skiing resorts, by the end of the year. Elisa estimates that there will be 300,000 3G customers in Finland by the end of 2006, up from around 40,000 at the start of the year.
