Single telecoms regulator to be in place by end 2007

8 Sep 2006

Jamaica’s Minister of Information and Development, Colin Campbell, has said that within the next twelve to 18 months, a single regulator will be established for the media and communications industry. The new department will manage the entire telecoms and broadcasting environment, dealing with issues such as licensing, universal service obligation standards and content. According to Mr Campbell, the provision of a single regulator will promote, encourage and foster innovation in the telecoms sector.
