TeliaSonera pushes broadband at 100Mbps

22 Aug 2006

TeliaSonera Finland has launched what it claims is the country’s fastest residential internet service at download speeds of up to 100Mbps. The fibre-optic service is designed to serve multiple-dwelling apartments and is initially available to select housing companies and their residents in Greater Helsinki and Tampere, with Turku and Oulu to follow shortly. Consumers will be offered Sonera Laajakaista Extra (Sonera Broadband Extra) at download speeds of either 1Mbps, 10Mbps or 100 Mbps, whilst the housing companies will be marketed Sonera Kiinteistöyhteys Kuitu (Sonera Multi-Dwelling Fibre Access), offering a 1Gbps symmetrical connection to each building. Both services are suitable for internet, voice, video, video-on-demand and HDTV services.
