BT to advise TOT on 3G rollout

14 Aug 2006

The board of Thai state-owned telco TOT Corp have endorsed in principle a plan to hire the UK’s BT Group to advise it on the rollout of a 3G mobile network. The consulting deal is worth THB30 million (USD805,000). TeleGeography’s GlobalComms database notes that TOT’s subsidiary Thai Mobile was awarded a 3G licence in August 2000 but has so far failed to capitalise on its status as the country’s sole holder of W-CDMA spectrum, held back largely by infighting between majority owner TOT and its fellow shareholder and sister telco CAT Telecom.
