India discusses 3G licence pricing

8 Aug 2006

The Ministry of Finance (MoF) has released details regarding its proposed pricing plans for 3G licences. An entry fee of INR250 crore (USD53.8 million) per metro circle has been suggested, while for category B circles the fee could be around INR150 crore. The Department of Telecommunications (DoT) has broadly backed plans to charge for 3G licences, though according to local sources it is likely to put forward a lower price, somewhere in the order of INR200 crore for a national licence. Regulatory body the TRAI is set to declare its recommendations next month.
