O2 reveals mixed bag of KPIs

28 Jul 2006

O2 Ireland has revealed that it added just 6,000 net new subscribers in the quarter to 30 June 2006, bringing the total to 1.599 million users. Last week arch-rival Vodafone announced that it added 15,000 customers in the period, giving it a subscriber base of 2.090 million. O2 also said that despite service revenue climbing 3.3% year-on-year, ARPU remained flat at EUR46 (USD58), roughly a fifth of which is derived from data services. A more positive development for the Telefónica-owned cellco was the 8% hike in average user minutes of use (MoU), from 220 minutes in the previous quarter to 237 minutes. Paul Whelan, O2 Ireland’s chief financial officer, said in a statement: ‘The O2 Ireland business continues to deliver a strong performance.’ He called the Irish market ‘fiercely competitive’ and said that the company was pleased at its expanding customer base.
