Jamaica accounts for two-thirds of Digicel annual turnover

Jamaica accounted for 67% of Digicel’s annual turnover in the twelve months ending 31 March 2006, generating USD416.6 million of the group’s total sales of USD623.3 million. The eastern Caribbean markets of St Lucia, Grenada and St Vincent, and the Grenadines contributed USD52.4 million in sales while Aruba, Antigua, Anguilla, Barbados, Bermuda, Cayman Islands and St Kitts and Nevis earned USD154.3 million. Since the end of the financial year end the company has launched in Bonaire, Curaçao, Dominica, French Guyana, Guadeloupe, Haiti, Martinque, Trinidad & Tobago and Turks & Caicos and now claims to operate in 20 markets with an aggregate population of 14 million. The company claimed a subscriber base of 1.9 million across the Caribbean at the end of March, a figure which had risen to approximately 2.6 million subscribers by the end of June; around 97% of its customers are connected to pre-paid plans.
