Ukrainian cellcos’ revenues soar

The revenues of Ukrainian mobile operators Kyivstar and Astelit soared in the first half of 2006, reports news agency Prime-Tass. Market leader Kyivstar saw turnover rise 62.3% year-on-year to UAH4.459 billion (USD929 million) in January-June, whilst third-placed cellco Astelit posted 1H revenues of UAH173.752 million (USD36.2 million), up from UAH43 million in the first half of 2005. 80% of Kyivstar’s revenues in 1H06 came from corporate clients, whilst business users accounted for 42% of Astelit’s turnover in the period. Kyivstar’s subscriber base stood at 16 million users at 30 June 2006; at the same date Astelit reported 3.91 million subscribers.
