Imagine wants 30% broadband penetration by year-end

12 Jul 2006

The head of Irish service provider Imagine Broadband Sean Bolger says he wants to see broadband penetration in Ireland rise from 7% presently to 30% by the end of the year. In an interview with siliconrepublic.com, Bolger also warned former monopoly eircom that if it did not improve its wholesale offering he would look to transfer his customer base to an alternative infrastructure. Imagine’s boss made the comments during the launch of the company’s ‘free broadband for 20 hours a week’ service that will come with a EUR9.99 (USD12.73) basic monthly rate for local and national calls. For an extra EUR9.99 a month, users can also subscribe for unlimited broadband access. Bolger hopes the new service will attract interest from Ireland’s 330,000-strong dial-up base, as well as enticing existing broadband customers.
