FT, Ericsson sign licence agreement

Ericsson and France Télécom have signed a licensing agreement under which the former will be able to leverage the French company’s ‘Turbo Codes’ patents for use in its own W-CDMA and HSDPA communications products. Ericsson is understood to had sought the deal because the patented codes have been adopted by the 3G cellular standards, 3GPP and 3GPP2 (CDMA2000) to deliver error correction performance at ‘commercially viable costs’, it said in a statement.
