Ukraine launches WiMAX tender

20 Jun 2006

Ukraine’s National Commission for Communications Regulation (NCCR) has begun accepting bids for WiMAX wireless broadband licences. Bids for WiMAX spectrum in the 5GHz frequency band will be accepted until 15 July. On 9 June, the government approved a radio frequencies allocation plan, under which new WiMAX services may be introduced from 1 July. Ukrainian High Technologies (under the brand name Alternet) already operates a WiMAX network in the frequency range 3.4GHz–3.7GHz in Kiev and Kharkiv, and plans to expand services to all 26 regional centres of the country.
